Have a handwritten letter that you need to reproduce multiple times? With UUNA TEK's iDraw H SE Pen Plotter and Inkscape, you can convert the original handwriting into vector paths and reproduce it on multiple sheets of paper.
This tutorial shows the complete process, from photographing the original letter to starting the final plotting job.
UUNA TEK is currently running its Halloween Special Sale 2026, with selected bundles offering up to 35% OFF and rotating weekly flash deals. Check the promotion page for the latest offers.
Step 1: Take a High-Resolution Photo
Take a clear, high-resolution photo of the handwritten letter. Crop out unnecessary borders and keep only the letter content.

Step 2: Set the Paper Size in Inkscape
Open the cropped image in Inkscape.
Go to:
File > Document Properties
Enter the actual paper size and orientation. In this example, the paper is A6, landscape orientation.

Step 3: Trace the Handwriting
Select the image and go to:
Path > Trace Bitmap... > Centerline tracing (autotrace) > Apply
Inkscape will trace the handwriting and convert it into vector paths that the pen plotter can follow.

Step 4: Delete the Image and Resize the Paths
Delete the original image and keep the traced paths.
Move and scale the paths so they fit the paper you set in Step 2.
When resizing, lock the aspect ratio first to avoid distortion.

Step 5: Prepare the iDraw H SE
Place the paper on the UUNA TEK iDraw H SE Pen Plotter and install the pen.
If the Inkscape plugin has not been installed, follow this installation tutorial:
Inkscape Plugin Installation Tutorial

Step 6: Optimize the Drawing Path
In Inkscape, go to:
Extensions > iDraw HSE Control
Then select:
Options > Advanced
Rearrange the paths according to your needs. This helps reduce unnecessary pen-up movements, such as moving from the left side to the right side and back again.

After arranging the paths, return to the Plot page and click Apply. The iDraw H SE will begin plotting the handwriting.
Step 7: Check the Final Result
Once plotting is complete, check the reproduced letter and compare it with the original.

Conclusion
With Inkscape and the UUNA TEK iDraw H SE Pen Plotter, an existing handwritten letter can be converted into vector paths and reproduced efficiently.
The workflow is simple:
Photo → Trace → Resize → Optimize Paths → Plot
This method can be used for handwritten letters, personalized stationery, envelopes, calligraphy, and other repetitive pen-plotting projects.
